Can I display two PCs on one screen?

I'm currently trying to display the desktop PC on my laptop. I have the monitor output DVI from the desktop PC in the HDMI input of the laptop.
My question is, can I use the desktop PC at all? So far it doesn't work. Where is the mistake?

No that is not possible. Your notebook has no graphics output.
