I have a 5 year old notebook from samsung model np33e5a.
I occasionally play darkorbit on my notebook.
And I notice again and again that if the monitor has to open many images at once that it then hangs or that the fps fall down '. Can it be that my hard drive is too old or damaged?
It is a bit old but works even before it was installed win 7 did win 10 loaded.

I do not think that it is the hard drive, but rather s.der graphics card / graphics memory, because, to my knowledge, games first pull everything relevant in the cache, what is needed.
With hwinfo you can see how much RAM you have, if only 4 then 8 out if possible.
The hard drive exchange can be very useful, as you say, but I advise an SSD…

So first, I have a Samsung notebook myself, now almost 8 years old. Keep it as long as possible! Samsung no longer sells notebooks in Europe, which is a pity, because they were very good.
I would recommend you to upgrade the RAM in any case to 8GB, 4GB are not enough for gaming under Windows 10. Do you get used on eBay for 10 euro (4GB stick, I assume a slot will be free, so it was with me).
Otherwise, it helps to rebuild the system, preferably even on an SSD. I can recommend because the MX500 in the size as you need them. Is one of the best SATA hard drives. Of course you can also take any other SSD like a Patriot Burst or a cheap Intenso.

The 2nd hard drive? Are you sure that two hard drives are installed? Normally, only a 500 GB HDD should be installed.
As I said, how much memory you need you have to know yourself. In general, usually enough 500 GB, but if you store many pictures and videos are even scarce 1 TB.
