Why can I no longer send mails from the new device?

Got a new laptop recently. Now I'm trying to get my Thunderbird email account on the new device and I was even able to log in… More or less. I should give the first and last name and my old email address and password. I didn't know the password anymore, so I clicked the sign away again. When I opened Thunderbird again, I was suddenly verified, but all my old mails were gone. And when I want to write an email, this message comes:

'Sending the message failed.

Error sending message: SMTP server .web.de is unknown. The server may be configured incorrectly. Please check the SMTP server settings and try again. '

What exactly should I do? How do I get my old mails back and by the way, do you know how I can get on without a password or how I can reset the old password? ^^ '

The location of your emails depends on how you accessed them on the old computer. If you call them up via IMAP, they are still saved with your email service provider (I suspect it is web.de due to the error message) based on their guidelines. If you access them via POP3, they are probably ONLY on the old computer. If you also use Thunderbird there, you could transfer the profile there to the new computer, then the emails would be back. The same also applies to all settings for the mail accounts. Thunderbird offers instructions here:

If you do not want to go the way and continue to try to set up the account on the new computer, you will first have to enter the correct access data. This also includes the password for your email account. Without that you will not be able to do anything.
