In my school we really have soo fast internet and I would like to download something with my computer because the internet is very long in my home. But they said that you will be punished if you download something on the Internet. And those who say they can trace that back to the laptop. Can I somehow hide that I download something?

Please explain on loan.

Is this your private computer? If you can simply get into the network and no proxy is necessary then that's no problem. Otherwise, you can already track it - you could of course bypass this, but this requires a few steps for which you should have some experience and are certainly not allowed by the school.

So go, but I'll give up here simple ways to manipulate school IT to call.

To make it short: without expertise - no

Especially since you would not have the necessary rights on a school computer anyway, in order to install the programs that would be something (or approximately) possible.

What you could do at most (if possible): bring your own laptop and thus go to the local Wi-Fi or directly to a LAN cable (could possibly work, depending on how the network is set up). But if there are no guest accounts or the accounts are person-related, you will not be able to download anything "secretly". This is not how the Internet works.

Even if he gets the "school IT" manipulated, it is still questionable whether a log / journal of network activities is written. In my opinion, he should keep his fingers away from it to prevent any trouble.

If you do it right, that's no problem, but if you get caught doing it, it will not end well. If it is not illegal or particularly questionable - e.g. Downloading a shared photo album - that's relatively harmless and I would just do it. But only if it is really something banal.

In addition, school IT is usually not really safe…
… One reason why I would not really use them for private purposes ^^

If you can just hook up your laptop to a LAN socket without having to log in, it's not a problem. About the local IP and Mac address do not get out who that was, it is different if you have to log in with your schoolaccoung.
