Unfortunately we live in an area where we only have one 2000 line. I don't know if you could sign a new contract to improve the internet speed or if nothing changes even if you do, so the internet provider has no influence on it because the "technical conditions are limiting".
Actually had to study before next year (probably for the winter semester) and now at the university yes, almost everything is online regardless of Corona & now with Corona it is even worse with all the Zoom conferences, lectures and seminars over several hours. With many of my friends it is currently the case that they sometimes have face-to-face lectures again and everything else is done via Zoom.
So now I have already said that I'm going to work for a year or do a federal voluntary service for the rest of the time (one semester each) because we or I have not had the money / have to cover myself technically for the university. I have to buy a tablet, a laptop and if possible, as I said, sign a new internet contract + everything else that I have to buy for university over the course of time. (I know that I can then, fortunately, apply for student loans)
Anyway, if the internet contract doesn't make sense because our "technical conditions" don't allow me to study with a 2000 line? Especially when it comes to zoom. Don't think that I can allow myself to lose my internet connection all the time, that I don't understand my counterpart and, accordingly, can't work properly. Don't think that they'll just make an exception for me and send me the necessary material elsewhere.
To be honest, I don't feel like sitting in an internet café all day from morning to evening. Above all, it is not for free and would have absolutely no idea where and whether it exists in my area
Streaming providers such as Amazon or Netflix would not work with us, for example & even so I notice when I'm only on YouTube or Instagram that the connection is sometimes unstable, just like when I watch a movie on the Internet.
Do you have any idea about that? Or do you have a solution for me? Just because of that, moving into your own apartment is nonsense, apart from that, we couldn't do that anyway.
2K = 2Mbit / s
If you want to watch Netflix you already need 2.5 - 6.5 Mbit / s.
If the line is bad, probably not even half will get through.
There are also other neighbors who want to use the line. It won't work.
Without a 6K line, nothing works.
With a connection with 2 Mbit / s the upload speed is probably far too slow for zoom.
So it would definitely make sense to switch to a faster tariff.
If you can't get a faster offer via DSL or cable, you could also use LTE, e.g. The Congstar Homespot
Or you can book internet via Starlink. This should also be available in Germany by the winter semester 2021. But then it will probably cost around 80 euro / month whereas the home spot costs only 43 euro (for 200 GB data volume).
A 2,000 line is usually a 2 Mbit / s connection in the downstream and an estimated 128 - 256 Kbit / s upstream.
This order of magnitude is quite tight - especially when it comes to video conferences or multimedia in general.
As a first step, I see you researching which speeds are possible with you. You can use the search for https://www.teltarif.de/tarife/telefon-internet/vdsl-dsl-glasfaser-tvkabel/, for example.
Set the speed regulator to 50,000 kbit / sec first.
This will give you the VDSL offers at your address - and they start at (guaranteed!) 50 Mbit / s. Upstream is usually 5 to 10 Mbit / s.
So you are on the safe side - more is always nice, of course. But it also has to remain affordable. Especially as a student
To answer your initial question: Yes, that is possible if necessary. But it will most likely not be fun!
