Calculate the net price of a laptop if the given gross price of 899 EUR already includes 19% VAT.
I just do not come up with the given answer options…
A: 755.46 euro
B: 761.86 euro
C: 840.19 euro
D: 775 euro
I don't necessarily want someone to do the math for me here, but to show me a solution so I can understand the principle…
You have to solve the equation x + 0.19 * x = 899. Didn't you get to know these great percentage tableaus in class? I was never able to deal with them, just like with the three-sentence tables, but my children love them.
The € 899.00 includes 19% VAT. H. The gross price corresponds to 119%. The net price (= basic value to which 19% VAT will later be added) corresponds to 100%. You can calculate this with the three-digit rate, or you consider: to get from 100% to 119%, you have to multiply by 1.19 (corresponds to an addition of 19% to the basic value), i.e. H. To get back from 119% to 100% you have to divide by 1.19.
The gross price is 119% of the net price. You can solve the rest with a set of three, right?
You think that net + VAT is 100% + 19% = 119%.
So you divide 899/119.
Since you then have 1%, you multiply that again by 100 and get the net price (basic value).
So all in all
899/119 * 100 euro
Why use a three-sentence when you can also juggle with factors? XD
Had to edit it because my answer was wrong xD
