Connect laptop with 2 monitors?

I would like to connect my laptop with 2 monitors (1 HDMI & 1 VGA). I can't use VGA and HDMI at the same time, since neither have space at the same time. I thought about buying a USB VGA adapter. Would that work (connect one monitor with HDMI and the other with the USB VGA adapter)?

My laptop has an NVDIA and Intel graphics card.

So theoretically it should work. I do not see a problem there. But keep in mind that each additional screen costs in terms of performance. This can be very noticeable on an older laptop 😁

Can't you use HDMI and VGA because the connectors block each other?
