Digitize and store video cassettes?

I want to digitize my old video cassettes at home.
Are there any recommendations here on how best to do this?

Unfortunately I only have a video cassette recorder for the VHS format.
In addition, I also have video8 / Hi8 and MiniDV tapes. I want to digitize this too!

Do I need an extra video recorder for the other cassette formats or are there adapters for this?

Are these adapters / video recorders also available on Ebay or the like, because I don't need any "professional devices", but simply devices that are not too expensive and work reliably.

I have about 100 hours of video footage. Are there any recommendations on how and where best to save the videos? So on a laptop or computer or even on an external storage drive? If it is to be an external storage device, do you have any recommendations?

Are there any people here in the forum who have done all this before and can give me recommendations?

I would appreciate a quick answer here.

Thank you very much for the help and stay healthy!

There are USB adapters, so-called grabbers, for this purpose.

You plug in your video source and sound, and off you go. Costs under 20 euro.

But: 100 hours of video also takes 100 hours to digitize.

Save with backup copy on 2 hard drives.

You definitely need the right player for every video format.

You can buy it used on eBay for little money.

Video grabbers that support the formats are also available on eBay.

I did it years ago. After the first cassette you really get to sorting out what is really and absolutely important. The pile shrank pretty quickly and ended up in the trash.

That may be all, but it's not because of this adapter, but because of what nonsense you filmed in the past

Yes, or what was previously considered important to have on tape. However, I had such a video recorder / CD burner. Combination, you could cut the transfer time in half (?) It still felt like it took forever.

Look at Mediamarkt.de for video grabbers. Different versions on offer.

I recommend this: https://www.expert.de/shop/unsere-produkte/computer-zubehor/software/sonstiges/21030063201-retten-sie-ihre-videokassetten-2021.html?branch_id=1907323 Everything is there to digitize video cassettes.

For video8, hi8 and mini dv, i recommend the respective cameras in connection with a firewire card. Video8 and hi8 can also be played on the same device.

for the video recorder, a so-called A / V grabber (available as a USB device that is quite inexpensive) would be the simplest variant.

by the way: if there are not too many hi8, video8 and mini dv cassettes, it may be worthwhile to use a transfer service. You give a usb stick, or buy it right away, or you can do it on cd.
