I have a "housing" for my laptop exactly so that it can cool better. But my question is how can I connect the 4 pin fan of the housing to this? Are there adapters from 4 to 2 pin or is there a fan control that I can connect to the laptop via USB? I'm also open to new ideas.
You could shorten the 4 pin connector in the middle and solder a usb end to it

For my old fan that I took from an old power supply unit, there was a 2 pin black on black and red on red. Leave the others on. If possible, just try somewhere else beforehand on something that doesn't have as much power output laptop or something
Black is the negative pole. Red the positive pole (12V or 5V). Then you can only control the fan via the voltage.
