When it comes to sound via Bluetooth, it depends on which codec is supported by both the mobile phone and the Bluetooth speakers. The keywords are 'SBC', 'AAC', 'aptX' and 'aptX HD' (at least the most important ones).
The 'basic quality' is SBC, which is actually not that great. But actually every mobile phone and every Bluetooth speaker / headphones can do that. The best option of the above is probably aptX HD, but that's not available on iPhones. So if you have an Android smartphone, then I would make sure that your Bluetooth speaker supports at least aptX or better aptX-HD.
If you have an iPhone, I would rather not invest in a Bluetooth but rather probably a new investment. Better to use a wireless speaker.
In general, the range of Bluetooth is of course limited, if you leave the room, then it can get tight under certain circumstances.
