Undzwar I want to get an external hard drive to possibly make programs on it. (I was not advised to play anyway, but if you do not need too much power?), Because my problem is the following: My laptop has only one SSD with 220GB, of which Windows already eats something. And after two years of use it annoys me. I currently have nothing left that I could easily uninstall, but also no more space.
I mean, you can now say that I should just install the new (would be just a HDD), I would do that, but if I would like to have an external yet, with which I can use, for example, a capture card, or from other devices would want to carry things over on my laptop. So other consoles, PCs, etc., bring data quickly and easily on my laptop.
Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to finance an internal, and to an external, otherwise I would just do that, besides, I do not really dare to open my laptop, because I'm quite a layman in such matters, and if I'm accidentally ruined, I would not get a replacement so fast.
How does it look like with programs? On what should I pay attention to the read / write data, USB-3.0 is sufficient at all, and you have some recommendations?
(On which I hope all my questions have been described, and that someone can help me!)
I operate my laptop optionally with / without external HDD. The HDD can also be a USB stick. USB3 is of course advisable.
The internal SSD with 120GB is used only for the most necessary. For on the way, I use a USB stick (128GB) on which I have the "portable apps" that cover everything.

At home, I then use the external HDD (2TB).
To achieve a separation of program / data, I recommend you this article:

I run the laptop at home with external keyboard and big monitor as PC replacement.

Whether for programs or games, an external HDD with USB 3.0 is definitely sufficient. I keep my important data basically on external media on the use of internal storage space only temporarily.
If you look around for an external hard drive, just make sure that it works without a power adapter and only uses a USB port. Among other things, you can recommend the "WD Elements".
I've also often read and synonymous here programs such as Photoshop access to the registry of Windows, for example, and then it just does not work, otherwise you would have to use the external as C:, as it looks like? (Would use the programs on the external, of course, only on the one laptop) and if I theoretically have a few years in a new laptop, I only need to reinstall the programs, right?
On the subject of external FP. I have currently inherited 5 (More…) 4 of which sold 1TB for 35 euro, 500 GB for 20 euro. Long Formatted. Nobody has complained yet. Here at are the better ones that have USB Y port. One for the data one for electricity.
What you plan to do is the built-in better. Only there should you become a specialist.
But it would also go with an external, only then a bit slower, right?

Yes, programs write entries in the registry where the applications are ultimately stored is actually irrelevant. The external hard drive, however, needs to be connected if you want to use the programs.
For Photoshop and other CreativeCloud programs but the system partition would prefer. Especially since I just do not know if you can change the installation path at all. Everything else, however, can install on an external disk.
If you're clever anyway, look if your programs do not even have a portable version. Those can come out without installation and can be moved free. You can especially recommend PortableApps.
and if I theoretically have a few years a new laptop, I just have to reinstall the programs, right?
Yes, you always have to reinstall programs on a new computer. The only exception are portable applications. These can simply be moved from A to B. Or you can start it right from the external hard drive. Ultimately, no matter, because with portable apps actually nothing in the Registry lands.
Many Thanks!
I absolutely do not know that. I've never done that. Therefore yes the expert
