Picture shrinks from 6000x4000 to 1599x1066?

I have a Nikon D5300

I shoot my photos RAW with manual settings.

Theoretically, the images should be 6000x4000 in size (according to settings), but if I want to load and edit them on my laptop they are only 1599x1066 in size.

Maybe someone knows why?

Do you have a reasonable program that can actually develop the RAW? Otherwise, it might be that only the embedded preview is opened, and of course that is much smaller

Any tips for software other than Adobe Creative Cloud?
Am still a beginner because it is not really worth it.

"Creative Cloud" is not a program…

You can use the "photo" package from Adobe as part of the Creative Cloud. Subscribe to Amazon as PrePaid only about 11 euro per month…

Otherwise there would still be a sensible program CaptureOne

Unfortunately I do not know all the cheap hobby programs

Lo

Adobe Lightroom (unfortunately new only as a subscription) is perfect for beginners.

I agree with you. LR is awesome, but you have to learn a bit before you can really work with it.

Adobe Lightroom (unfortunately new only as a subscription)

you can still buy Lightroom version 6 everywhere…

There are no more updates, but for a little old amateur snaps that's enough anyway

Lo

But still to have? Well. I have, too, and even for my big amateur clips, it will be enough until I have a new one at some point, which is no longer supported.

ca

I use Photoshop elements. You get that for about 50 euro in the current or the last version.

Ha

Is due to the transfer.

Ie. You have to deal with the settings in your transmission program. The best thing is to copy a card reader and the pictures, then nothing will be converted.

Nikon RAW are .NEF or Coolpixen also .NRW (have only a maximum of 3x12 bit instead of 3x16 bit) files

Nikon has included the instructions, drivers and basic RAW software (Viewer-NX) on a CD to the camera. The formerly for 180 euro extra to buy Capture NX (Pro) is now available without Nik U Point technology as a free NX-D version and Lightroom / Silkypix clone to download on the Nikon homepage, you do not even register.

In each kiosk you will find photo magazines with demo software as cover with Capture-One and DXO it is often simply old versions as a full version after registration without annoyances "endless" run (with Chip and CT often with Turorials to). Even the free Capture One Express can be used as a "naked" RAW Developer. And there are about a dozen free RAW developers and eg NEF modules for Irfan View. For Unixen / Mac looks anderst.

Lightroom has only been available as a CC subscription model since 2016, but LR6 full versions can be bought on the Net for Pocket Money Courses are often unbundled from Samsung Sets. Problem with Lightroom is the Photoshop products are a dead end or you always update / money reinbutteren must.

At Windoof, there's a new RAW codec pack every year that converts to X-Window JPEG, which is at least 10 bits like JPEG2000 and non-destructive, not the usual 8-bit JPEG standard junk for web browsers.

And at Adobe there's a free standalone RAW> DNG batch converter.
