I'm finally updating my laptop and so far the update was actually surprisingly fast but now it's getting extremely slow just before the end. I managed only 7% within an hour. Am now at 93%. The first 86% took only 20 minutes or so. Is that normal?
It can't be on the internet connection. Does the update start again from the beginning when I briefly disconnect the laptop from the Internet? Thought that might help…

I would not do that. The interruption of an update process can lead to complete instability of the system and possibly to a new installation.
This can only be done when it is completely clear that the computer has "hung up".
