Or would it go worse. Can you actually update to Windows 10 for free?
It depends on what is on the laptop. A free upgrade from Windows Vista is not possible.
So Windows 10 will hardly improve the speed. In addition, since your laptop is from 2010 or 2007 at the most, I would cross my fingers that the driver hardware is still being developed for Windows 10 to this day. Therefore I would not really recommend Windows 10 on such an old cucumber.
The only and best solution how to make laptop faster is simply to upgrade from HDD to SSD hard drive for laptop. But this will only start the operating system and programs faster, with the rest nothing will change in speed. If you're just annoyed by slow starts, an SSD would be worth trying.
Otherwise, unfortunately, it means buying a new laptop.
In addition, I would not have used Windows Vista for a long time, and instead of Windows 10, I would prefer to use Linux if you only need a laptop to surf the Internet.
A free update is not possible, the computer is also older than 10 years, so it is not worth it. An alternative would be to use Linux. There are live versions that also run from CD, so you can simply try out how you can handle it.
And goes from Vista to 7, then 8 and then 10?
You can try it, it costs nothing… Even if you want to keep it then it costs about 10 euro.
Otherwise I would do a CPU update and install an SSD, then it has a decent increase in performance.
A CPU update costs about 5-15 euro, a small SSD 25 euro.
Doesn't make any sense with a dual core only and in combination with a normal HD it doesn't really make sense
From Vista to 7 and then directly to 10 would be possible, but the update to 7 is not free.
Because of the age, it is uncertain whether 10 will run.
