Laptop does not display graphics card - why?

I have just bought a notebook with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050. But when I look in the system settings or test whether my notebook packs a game, I will only see the Intel Uhd 620.

Have the notebook new from Saturn, on the notebook are also two stickers with the name "Nvidia Gtx 1050" on it, does anyone know what's going on?

Where do you look after that? Press the Windows key + X and open the Device Manager via the menu. The "Graphics Card" section should include both the integrated graphics chip (Intel HD Graphics) and the dedicated graphics card (GTX 1050).

In normal operation, by the way, the integrated graphics chip is used and the dedicated graphics card only when the power is needed, for example, in games. The whole thing is a power-saving technology, so laptops with dedicated graphics cards not necessarily have an astronomical power consumption and thus a low battery life.

Should it ever be the case that an application that is actually supposed to run with the GTX 1050 is instead executed with the integrated graphics chip, then you can easily change this. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and select "Manage 3D settings" in the left navigation. In the program settings you can specify for individual programs with which graphics unit they should be executed.

Press Windows key + R.
Enter dxdiag there.

There you usually have the two sub-points "Display 1" and "Display 2".
One of them should be the Intel onboard graphics card, the other the Nvidia, if the driver is installed for it… The notebook was certainly preinstalled, so it should be the case.

Anyway, the high-performance graphics card is automatically selected for almost every game, a well-known exception is Minecraft, because you have to set this. Is probably due to Java.

So mine throws the 1050 only in games.

The Intel HD graphics are used in normal operation.

Both cards should be present in the device manager. I would have to look again.

Click on the right side of the desktop and see if there are possible adjustments for both.

1. Do yourself a favor and give the notebook back, if you can handle it correctly. Want to play and not necessarily be mobile.

The GTX 1050 is a beginner card and does not pack current games.

Of course, if you only want to play Minecraft or Sims and Co then you are welcome to keep it.

2. The driver must be installed. If this is the case, you need to assign the graphics card in the Nividia Control Panel.

Needed a laptop for study, incidentally wanted to play games. The graphics-intensive games I play on my Ps4 Pro, on the laptop that will not be so much. Got the device for 490 euro again, so was a very good price.

Install the right driver and see what's up.

Then that makes sense, of course. Just mentioned it, because many do not know and then every 2 years buy a new notebook.

And, did it work?

I did, worked Thank you:-)!

Have the drivers on the Nvidia page loaded and now it works, thanks:-)

No problem.
