Unlock / unlock laptop keyboard?

Yesterday for my birthday I got the Dell Latitude 3190 2-1 tablet. When I started it everything worked fine except for the keyboard. The mouse can be moved and selections are normally possible. However, it is not possible to type with the keyboard, which makes writing essays more difficult. I scoured the internet all day looking for a solution, but to no avail.

The tablet itself works and all functions are possible when I switch to tablet mode or scroll with my finger in normal mode. However, the keyboard is useless.

To my question:

Is there any setting that enables the keyboard to be activated? It is not possible using key combinations, as the tablet does not react to any key presses.

I would be very happy to receive a helpful answer!

That sounds more like a defective device to me.

A button that could be used to (temporarily) deactivate a keyboard seems absolutely illogical to me.

But what amazes me: why does everything work then? The device was bought completely new, a defect is very unlikely, right?

Please run Keyboard troubleshooter on the system by typing Troubleshoot onto [Cortana] search box. The troubleshooter find and fix problems with your computer's keyboard settings.

If Troubleshooter doesn't fix keyboard:

Uninstall / reinstall keyboard driver in device manager.

1. Right click keyboard driver and select Uninstall

2. Select Action on the Device Manager menu bar

3. On the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall driver

If that doesn't work:

1. Right click keyboard driver

2. Select Properties

3. Select Roll back Driver under the Driver tab

Lastly, if keyboard still doesn't work normally:

Roll system back to the most recent successful configuration of the registry, restart the computer in Safe Mode and select the Last Known Good Configuration option. Hopefully this will finally fix the computer's keyboard.
