Can i extend ram?

I have an old laptop and want to expand ram there. But I don't know if that is possible. It only has one slot for ram and currently 4GB of ram are plugged in. The laptop runs very poorly. After all, he's already 8 years old.

I got it from my great-uncle 4 years ago and would now like to pass it on to my little cousin if the ram works. But my cousin shouldn't be fiddling with a slow thing like that. A https://www.notebookcheck.com/...880.0.html APU processor from AMD is built into the laptop. Can I swap 4GB for 8GB or does that no longer fit?

Laptop name: Medion Akoya E1318T

Can you save yourself the hassle.

Ha

I don't think that is possible because it is very likely soldered in.

ka

Effort or not. Would it work

Ca

If the laptop has a slot it should be possible.

It would be even more important to install an SSD if one is not already installed

greetings

Edit:

I just saw that the question was asked before:

Medion replied that it is possible up to 8GB

You could look up the exact laptop name.

Many thanks for your help

The RAM is expanded to a maximum of 4GB. An SSD would accelerate the computer significantly more than more RAM, if an HDD is also installed. But even then, the 1GHz of the two AMD cores are the limiting factor.

The device cost 350 euro and was very comfortable 4 years ago. Today you can buy much stronger used laptops for 200 euro.

Is it possible to expand it to 8GB:

If that really works with the 8GB, that would be an interesting possibility.

In my research, however, I only ever read from 2GB or 4GB Ram.

In any case, I would replace the built-in HDD with a much faster Sata3 SSD.

This even saves electricity and the battery (basically) lasts a little longer.

And to make this system (AMD A4-1200, 2x1GHz) a bit "faster" overall, I would install a little Linux on it.

I have the current Linux Mint 20.1 with the frugal Xfce desktop in mind.

Even the existing 4GB RAM would be sufficient for this.

A parallel installation to a Windows is also possible.

On my very old notebook (32bit P4, 1x3GHz, 2GB DDR1, SSD to IDE, ATI Radeon (128MB), 1280x800) the 32bit MX-Linux runs with the said Xfce desktop.

And on my C2Q (4x3GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1050ti) the Linux Mint runs with the "large" and user-friendly Cinnamon desktop.
