I bought a laptop from Saturn in autumn 2018. It got slower and slower every month and now it takes 7.8 minutes until I can enter something into Google (switch on + log in + wait for Google to be operated).
What can I do? Could Saturn help me with this myself (guarantee?) Or do I have to take the initiative?
Defragment, clean up with CCleaner, delete unnecessary data garbage and programs.
You also have to clean up a computer regularly.
Delete all temporary files that your surfing company left behind as data garbage on the computer.
Well, obviously you have no idea about PCs, so I suspect that the system is cluttered, you have installed strange things or the PC is simply contaminated.
First you have to look at the individual problems.
How long does it take to start up?
What is signing in and how long does it take?
Does the browser take a long time to start?
Is the construction of websites slow?
I would reset the whole box to factory settings if in doubt. Of course, you can also just walk to Saturn and complain, because you are still under the warranty - but here it is questionable whether the laptop is really defective.
So mostly these Saturn PCs are full of advertising software.
Check your programs to see if there's software that you don't need (preinstalled games, weather app, advertising, etc.)
Then defragment the PC and clean up your hard drive (delete old data etc.)
If it is still slow, have a look in the Task Manager to see what the CPU, RAM and hard disk usage are.
From the gut, I would say directly that your hard drive is close to 100% because it is broken. Happens relatively often with such prefabricated PCs.
CCleaner does everything except clean up. And without knowing which type of hard drive is installed, you should not defragment it either.
What you can do? The easiest:
Set up again (NOT reset)
Use SSD instead of HDD (If not, which I assume based on the description and your knowledge of computers)
Don't install unnecessary software that you don't need. These include Clean Master, free antivirus programs, screenshot programs and a lot of add-ons for the browser.
NEVER use sites like chip or computer image or similar to download and install programs! Every program has an official page, download there and nowhere else. To do this, you have to skip the pages that are marked as "advertisements".
Remove dust. It is best to unscrew and clean everything.
Rather replace for "advanced" thermal paste. Every 2 years at the latest. Otherwise the laptop gets hot and slower so that it does not overheat.
One-time defragmentation can also make the ssd faster and will not harm it. The difference is not big, but in my experience it is still there. Of course, you shouldn't do it regularly. But in this case I also strongly suspect: the laptop is completely full, maybe dusty.
Thank you,
I have the pre-installed programs such as Games uninstalled on the very first day. Regarding the rest, I'll try and write again.
Yes, really have no idea about PCs.
1. It takes about 5.7 minutes to boot up (after the Acer brand name pops up, the screen turns black).
2. When the laptop is booted up, you can log into your account (assuming you use the PC with two people: everyone has their own account in which they have to log in). Until I'm logged in and my desktop is visible, it takes another 2.3 minutes.
3. Starting from the browser takes a long time so that the browser opens quickly until I can enter Google in the search bar, the window turns white and the mouse pointer turns into a blue circle (also takes 2 minutes).
4. After 3. I'm online relatively quickly.
5. Have already set the factory settings.
Thank you for your answer.
The long start-up time already indicates that there's a hardware defect. If you have also reset the device to factory settings and there was no improvement, this also suggests that something is defective in the hardware.
Therefore, you should go to Saturn with it, as you suspected, because you still have a guarantee AND can rule out that the problem is software-related. The best thing to do is tell them.
