As of today I can no longer make any downloads and the message always says "Download server not available". I've tried just about everything: changed servers several times, disabled firewall, checked Bitdefender and even uninstalled and reinstalled Steam. We have a Fritzbox, but strangely enough, the steam downloads work on my laptop, so it can't be because of that.

You have to wait for better or worse until they have fixed the problem.
But other downloads "Randoms" from the net work?
Go to the Steam folder and delete EVERYTHING except the Steam.exe and the game files.
And then you can reinstall Steam and see if it works.

Well, I uninstalled everything (does it matter if I leave the .exe file on it? Because I installed it again after I downloaded Steam again). I even accepted to uninstall all installed games with it, but unfortunately it still didn't work.
