External hard drive is suddenly no longer recognized / Hdd?

Unfortunately, I just had to find out that my external HDD is no longer displayed on my laptop.

Most of the music is stored on the hard drive and it was now only on my desk for 2-3 weeks, but previously it always worked perfectly.

Now I wanted to reconnect it (usb3.0) and it also comes on (Led lights up and is also audible), but it is no longer displayed to me in Explorer. The "Bing" signal from Windows also sounds quite normal when I plug the hard drive in or out. In disk management there's also nothing to be seen from the hard disk.

I have already tried it with a different cable and tried it on a different interface and PC but without success.

I can't get any further… Hopefully someone has a solution.

Is it displayed in the bios?

With luck, connected to an OSX will offer repair options.

With Linux also live session with Gparted the disk

Analyze.

If nothing helps, save data with test disk.

I wish you success.

Connect it to another computer. (have you already done)

Or restart your computer and plug the hard drive back in.

If all of this does not help, it could be that the control electronics of the part to which the hard disk is attached are defective. Then you would have to open the plastic case (this is often only possible with gross force and broken plastic) and unscrew and remove the hard drive. You can then connect it to your laptop or another PC using an adapter.

A very good adapter is this:

The information that it once worked is worthless. There's no reason why the device should work and if it hadn't worked from the start you would have exchanged the device with certainty.

However, what would have been very valuable: a backup. (As you should now notice, you should not have created one.)

You say that the hard drive is no longer displayed on your laptop.
Where exactly did you get this info from? Which program gave you this information?
This is essential for attempts to repair or rescue.
Do not listen to solutions that do not ask this question - because the answers have been given and could lead to unnecessary data loss.
