It could be loose contact with the speakers. Screw the thing up and see if there's something loose on the speakers
I do not know how other people are doing, but I had something similar. And that happens more often after a Windows update. For me, MS always wanted my audio drivers. Also the output source was just changed that way.
So if suddenly suddenly nothing goes any more, look if an update has taken place and check the settings.
Try to connect the speakers to another PC if you have the option and exclude the possibility of a loose contact.
