What do external laptop coolers do?

My gaming laptop always gets very hot and that's why I wanted to buy an additional laptop cooler on which my laptop will stand. Of course, my laptop also has built-in coolers, but they suck in the air from below. Will that even bring anything or will the integrated fans be affected?

sp

YES but if your laptop is already over 70-90 degrees you should look for a new laptop

Pr

My laptop was always running at 95 degrees while gaming until he died, lol.

sp

Your laptop is not intended for gaming, but rather for the OFFICE

Ma

70-90 degrees are perfectly fine, my RTX2060 in my laptop always has a normal temperature of around 80 ° C.

sp

No that is not NORMAL because the CPU must not get so hot! Otherwise your laptop will break

Ma

Even CPUs sometimes have a limit of 100 ° C, then they just eat electricity like hell. Temperatures between 80 and max. 85 ° are intended for the GPU (sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the model and manufacturer). Check the link with the manufacturer data of e.g. The 2060 https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/207566/gigabyte-rtx2060-6144-181210

So it can bring more, but also less.

If your cooler plate lets air through exactly where your fans are, it does more. This was not the case with my laptop, but the plate still cooled a little. Basically, the cooler should be of good quality and have good air permeability, then it will do a little bit.

Can you recommend a good cooler for me?

al

My laptop is always at about 70 degrees, but that's normal for this model

Am

Unfortunately, I have too little experience with laptop coolers to recommend a good one.

Most of the time you will find websites that rate such articles and reveal the advantages and disadvantages. There you can then choose the cooler that is best for you.

Pr

No, that was a gaming laptop. Office laptops rarely have dedicated graphics.

Just had a 4 core with hyperthreading and 3.6 GHz base clock (boost up to 4 GHz) and a dedicated graphics chip. And that with an inferior cooling solution. They are better there now.

It served quite well overall, but it was from 2014, so of course there are no new titles running.

Doesn't change if you write office in caps lock.

Thanks, I have another question. The ventilation slots are at the bottom of my laptop, does it make a difference if I put my laptop on a raised area so that more air can get in than if I just put it on the table?

Am

It just depends on how big the distance from the laptop floor to the table is.
