Microsoft Photos Add-On Free?

I would like to edit a birthday video consisting of many small videos.

I did a little research for free programs. I was told that the Windows Photos app is probably sufficient for simple things. Then I opened it on my laptop.

Shortly afterwards, the Photos add-on app from Microsoft was automatically installed in the background without my consent. On the one hand, I don't think that's okay at all, and on the other, I wonder whether there are any disadvantages? Is this app free? Or do I have to pay for it in the course of use?

Unfortunately, I don't know much about it and was actually happy to have found this option without having to install anything beforehand. The automatic installation made me a little bit insecure now.

Does anyone have any experience with that?

The photo addon is permanently free.

To edit and cut videos I recommend OpenShot https://www.openshot.org/de/ Free Software for Windows, Mac and Linux.
