EGPU on HP ProBook 450 g4?

I have an HP ProBook 450 G4 with an Intel Core i5 7200 U that clocks at 2.5 GHz. That's okay for work, but the processor with integrated graphics unit is simply too weak for gaming. So I thought about connecting an eGPU (external graphics card). For this, as I once understood it, a Thunderbolt 3 connection is required. However, I only have one USB 3.1 Type C port on the notebook.

When I looked for a good question, opinions are divided: one camp thinks it is possible, the other camp does not. Also on the internet I only find articles that contradict each other.

So what I need is an opinion from someone who has already tried this and knows whether it works or not.

Without Thunderbolt, as far as I know, it's not really possible.

I would just buy a used gaming PC that isn't much more expensive either.

This would also work with your laptop but is not recommended
