Just now it suddenly started to smoke on my (rel. Old) laptop.
Exactly where the charging cable was in the laptop.
I then pulled it out quickly. But the smoke and smell of charred cable is all over the place now.
How can that happen? I had the laptop max. Half an hour in advance!
What can I do now?
I'm typing this from another laptop.
Can I still use the old laptop at all? Or will the thing fly around my ears and start a real fire?
There are many reasons for this to happen.
Either repair (which may not be worthwhile) or buy a new book.
And no, don't continue to use it. Remove the battery if possible
It was recently under repair (new hard drive) … Hmm… Annoying.
Yup. That happens, you get one thing repaired and another goes defective
It would be interesting to know whether there was smoke from the notebook connection itself or whether the charging cable on the plug was the cause. The charging cable can be exchanged…
Well, it was smoking exactly from this interface. I didn't want to investigate further because I had to act quickly. In retrospect I can't tell either, because both look normal and both stink…
PSU would be cleared up quickly. Simply plug it into the socket without a laptop and watch the plug. I already had a broken cable on the connector for the laptop, where the cable directly on the connector has simmered a bit… Smoke signals from the notebook itself indicate electronics. This is usually irreparable or associated with a mainboard replacement… You get a simple new one…
I've now had it checked by a neighbor who knows his way around. He opened the laptop and I saw that the motherboard is damaged (partly plastic melted away). That is now being exchanged. Price still ok…
