USB slot difference?

I have 3 USB slots on my laptop. 2 left and one right. Where is the difference which one to use when? Does it matter if the mouse is stuck here or there or the USB stick is there or there? I work with After Effects, my project is on my USB stick. I would also be interested in whether the project will render faster, depending on where the USB stick is.
