I wanted to ask which laptop brand you like.
Meanwhile have my third. Especially after the folding mechanism has been revised, I'm absolutely thrilled with it.
Razer / Asus ROG
Because I'm a gaming enthusiast and the companies are both good at it.
However, I have a desktop PC🙈
Apple, if you don't have a budget.
Medion is good too, some HP devices are good, the majority of HP laptops are ugly and easily breakable plastic bricks.
The new MacBooks are also good, but expensive and only worth the money if you want a lot of performance with little weight.
So I would say Apple. Have a comparison between Apple laptops and Microsoft laptops for you:
I have an ARM processor (Mac OS) against an i7 (Windows), a small i9 (MacOS) and a large i9 (Windows).
It is interesting, for example, that the M1 delivers a solid performance here without a dedicated graphics chip - the Intel CPU with Iris Pro graphics not only loses here but is mercilessly downgraded.
The M1 achieves a solid 2000-3000 points in the two graphics benchmarks that is 70-90 fps. The Intel CPU never got above 10 fps.
In terms of the built-in components, MS relies on a "budget" manufacturer with a Hynix Nvme SSD.
However, I don't trust the full comparability of the two 3D benchmarks across the operating systems, the RTX 2080 actually plays in a completely different league than the M1 chip 😊
In terms of pure raw computing power, the single M1 core beats all other Intel cores. With a brutal amount - i.e. MultiCore - the 14/28 cores of the 7940X CPU are individually slower, but 28 slow cores beat 8 faster ones 😊
On the subject of prices: The MacBook Pro 13 with M1 is priced at around 2,000 euro (with the same SSD configuration) even 500 euro below the Microsoft Surface Laptop which costs 2,500 euro.
The Macbook Pro 16 is the most expensive device here, the desktop PC (plays out of sequence here) is quite a bit cheaper if you put it together yourself.
Anecdote: The Macbook 16 and the Surface Notebook get quite loud under load. I haven't heard the ARM notebook once 😊
Regarding any concerns about software incompatibilities:
Not all of these benchmarks were already optimized for the M1 - but ran without problems with Rosetta2.
Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus has been available in a suitable version since the release of the M1.
Any questions? 😊
