I have a slightly older Lenovo Thinkpad notebook with the above mentioned. CPU that is virtualizable according to Intel, i. You can install a virtual machine (such as VMWare Player or Oracle VirtualBox) on the machine.
I have an even older DSLR, which is rebuilt for astrophotos, but unfortunately only up to Windows XP was supported by Canon with software. In order to be able to focus on a desktop display with the camera connected via USB (no LiveView, only with an optical viewfinder), I want to install or connect it under XP in the virtual machine.
I have VMWare Player installed, but when starting the installation there's an error message saying that virtualization technology (Intel VT-x) is not enabled on the laptop. Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the BIOS; how do you activate this?
Not all computers are suitable for this because the processor must fully support this.
But that is suitable, that was a few years ago with a reason for the purchase of this version. I did not need it until today.
For my current device it was like this:
In the BIOS, go to the Security tab and then press Enter Virtualization. (ThinkPad).
Then select the item Intel (R) Virtualization Technology, then press Enter, there was then activate and press Enter again
Then accept the selection with the corresponding F10 key (for me).
Was it because of this solution?
Thanks, that's it! Somehow I too overlooked the point too hastily.
