My best friend can no longer open her Word file (Office 2015) saved two hours ago on Mac. There's always an error message of "… Open xml file can't be opened…". In addition, the file, which is over 15 pages long, is suddenly only 168 bytes.
She had not created a backup via the TimeMachine. I tried to help her but with my Microsoft laptop I'm not the right helper for Macs.
Is there any way to save the file?
I can't help but use Google Docs for writing in the future! Then that doesn't happen anymore.
With Word you can also set an interval that it should be saved every minute. But you are always the safest in the cloud!
If you have activated the AutoBackup of Word, there should be a copy of the document in the user directory, which is then at least not a total loss. The small size suggests that the document had an error fairly early on. You can try opening it with LibreOffice Writer. But if that doesn't work either, then the document should be lost.
Have you ever peeked into the trash? Otherwise it looks bad.

You don't need that either, it happens fully automatically. You now know why not disable that?
