I have a MacBook and tried to install Windows with an external hard drive. I did this with UNetbottin because it doesn't work with Bootcamp or I don't have enough storage space for it. In order for UNetbottin to work, however, I had to convert my external hard drive to the FAT32 file system. So far so good. However, if it starts to install windows now, the warning comes that Windows can't open the install.wim file and that all necessary files must be available for the installation (I downloaded Windows 10 ISO, have already tried 64bit and 32bit ).
However, I don't know which files might be missing. However, I have already read that FAT32 sometimes has problems with this file because it is larger than 4GB.
Can someone maybe tell me what the bug is?
And in case you're wondering why I need Windows on my Mac - I bought the Mac last year, but now I need Windows systems for university and don't want to buy myself a new laptop again.
I think if you want to install Windows from an external hard drive that won't work, as in your case it will only cause problems.
I would try it with a USB stick that has at least 8 GB. The sticks don't cost that much.
Thank you. How does it make a difference whether I use a hard drive or a stick?
I don't know what that could be because of me it didn't work with a record either.
