What is the oldest Windows I can install?

I still have my old laptop, a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, and wanted to know which is the oldest Windows that the computer still supports. And I don't mean VirtualBox or the like, but a Windows that you can really install. The laptop is an old work tool that came with Windows Vista. Immediately afterwards I installed Windows XP Professional, unfortunately I no longer know which SP that was. At some point I uninstalled Windows XP and installed ubuntu 14.04 LTS, which, like Windows XP Professional, went very well. But I still had a few (very) old games at home that I used to play a lot with this laptop, including Hercules, Wonderland (which was actually developed for DOS as far as I know), Hugo. 'D) and (mine Favorite…) Theme Park World, which is why I have now reinstalled Windows XP Professional SP1a four times in a row. (The 4x because I never activated Windows.) Today I finally activated Windows XP Professional SP1a via phone.

As indicated above, I do NOT want to use the computer for the Internet, so network drivers are not required. In the meantime I also installed Windows 2000 Server dual with Windows XP Professional SP1a, which one

1.) Didn't run very smoothly.

2.) I didn't get any drivers. (I always thought that Windows 2000 has almost the same drivers as Windows XP)

Maybe the server basis was to blame for the "failure". By the way, Windows 98 is not running and I think it is because Windows 98 (just like W2k, I know) is based on NT. Apart from that, it doesn't work very well with the startup disk.

Now to my question:

Is it possible to install an older operating system than Windows 2000 / Me on the above device, or is it going too far? By the way, I'm worried about SATA. I already had to switch AHCI mode to Compatibility mode for the installation of Windows XP Professional SP1a in the BIOS so that the Windows XP Professional SP1a setup took away the 120 GB SSD at all. That alone will probably cause the greatest problems.

Best regards

P.S.: A few more details about the device:

.) Intel Core2Duo

.) 3GB DDR3 RAM

.) Integrated graphics card (which one?)

.) 120 GB SSD

P.P.S.: I have a problem with the battery. The laptop only runs with a charging cable because it no longer recognizes the battery. For a short time it worked again, but it has not worked for some time now. Does anyone have any idea what that might be?

Windows 1.0, but I advise if to Xp.

Try the 32 bit versions no win 10?

With Hwinfo you can find all data about the hardware

Or buy the Driver Genius and it will load all you need without searching… Then maybe a new operating system will work

Windows NT 3.1

The oldest one that will run is XP, win98 is not based on NT, dosgames also run in the command line, before I bought a win98 computer I had to play the games as well

Not running

fl

XP is not the oldest!

But I don't want a new operating system, I already have it on the device I'm writing on. Everything is at the top of the question. In good German I want to know if I can get an operating system running on my laptop before Windows 2000.

For the title question only:
Which of the oldest Windows you can install can't be answered. To do this, we would have to know your technical skills very well - which is definitely not possible on this platform.

I have seen professionals who have managed to install Windows 1 or even MS-DOS 1 on current hardware. I don't know if you are one of them.
Considering that you can easily find such information on google and youtube… No, I better stop writing.

Oh god, I'm definitely not one of those professionals! : 'D I know a little bit about computers etc., but I never could. But that's not why you don't have to look dumb, with the implied meaning that I wouldn't have googled first. There will hardly be anyone on Google who asks if they can install this and that on my device.

The oldest which will run on his system, win98 and below, does not cope with the architecture of the CPU, let alone the SSD with win98, he wrote that win2000 is already causing problems

You asked about your skills here - if you can.
This requires a personal answer.
If you don't care, consider formulating your questions more broadly.

A "How does it work?" Question is something else than a "Can I?" Question.

The fact that you didn't even consider googling first would have to be considering your question: "You? No!" reply.
I assumed that this might be too direct for you.
