Read Windows KEY from external hard drive?

My computer is completely greased and the SSD hard drive on which Windows has installed no longer works. He changes into an endless loop with.

This blue message ":( that shouldn't have happened. Windows will be restarted" shuts down again and ends up either in the blue error message or partially automatic rep, where it hangs completely.

When I go into the BIOS, the same thing happens.

I have removed the SSD and can connect it to my laptop, for example, and also open the folders etc.

Tried to install another SSD for testing - but now I'm missing the CD key…

I didn't receive a CD key when I bought it, but a system with pre-installed Windows. I received the invoice online, without a key and there were NO papers or anything on delivery.

I googled a bit and the program "KeyFinder" is supposed to do that, ie to read the Windows key from an external hard drive - but it was unsuccessful.

I can open Windows folders etc. On the hard drive, for example.

When I connect the hard drive to the laptop and open it, however, it reads the CD key from the laptop because I booted it up.

However, I Can't boot from the dismantled SSD because it immediately tries to install Windows…

Does anyone have an idea how I can read out the Windows key, or is the only way to call the dealer where I bought the PC?

Maybe this works?

https://www.windowspower.de/windows-key-auslesen-aus-einer-externen-festplatte/

Bl

No, this is the program that I have already downloaded.

I just looked at the link.

La

If you have set up an e-mail on microsoft, it will automatically read it out. That means you instalierst go to e mail and without what to do ms is activated

Bl

Unfortunately, no. I even called Microsoft yesterday. The key would only work if I had bought Windows from the Microsoft Store.

But I bought the complete system with Windows from the dealer in Munich.

Try to repair the SSD using a power cycle

Bl

Then on the foreign PC? So I reconnect the hard drive to my laptop and then try to repair it there?

La

Nonsense

ke

Simply connect the SSD to power, there must be no data connection

Bl

Fact.

Bl

I do not understand that. If it is only connected to the power supply, I can't pull a program on, let alone install it

if I attach it to the laptop with a USB cable, is there an automatic data connection?

Or am I standing on the hose?

Kr

I'd whistle and switch to windows 10 pro and buy the key: https://hardwarerat.de/...er=SW10040

Bl

No solution for me, so I paid normally for Windows 10 and don't want to buy a new one, so I have Windows that I'm happy with.

Kr

You can ask the dealer whether he still has the key

Bl

Thank you. Although I just saw Windows only cost about 18 euro?!

Thought that would cost around about 60 or so.

At a mere 18 euro, I generally think about the next time whether it's worth all the stress…

Kr

Jo, at hardware council the key is so cheap, that's why I say yes

Bl

Did I miss something? Wasn't that always in the direction of 50.00 + or didn't I look it up for a long time?!

Then I didn't even click on the link because I didn't want to put 60 euro in the sand, although I have a version, but just under 18 Öcken…

Kr

Difficult to explain. If you want, you can read it yourself, the topic has a very long rat tail. At hardwarerat you get the support for the 18 euro, if you need any help. And if the key still doesn't work, you can get a new one. He buys the keys from a German dealer that has been taken over by a law firm. This dealer in turn procures the ones from abroad.

Hardware council has read in for weeks beforehand to consider which key supplier to take. And this key supplier was only taken over later by the law firm. While the lawyers were checking the legal situation, hardware advice was unable to sell any keys for a while, it's so damn complex. But ultimately everything is legally checked, keys are legal, work and as a customer you don't need to know much more.

Bl

But can't there be the surprise that at some point the message comes when the system has been running for months, something wrong with the key or something? I would be a little afraid of it.

Sounds like a rat tail.

Kr

No, once it works it stays that way!

Kr

Your fear is absolutely unfounded, I just found that the story behind these cheap windows keys from hardwarerat is too interesting to be completely concealed.

Bl

Thank you!

ke

You shouldn't either. Some controllers go into a self-repair mode when the SSD is connected to power and only when there's no data connection. Therefore, the easiest way to connect the SSD to the power supply in the other PC, drain the small SATA cable and start the PC

Bl

Thank you. I'm testing today.

OK this works here.

Thanks, I'll test it at home!
