MacBook for studying? Or is it a cheaper option?

I will start my studies this winter semester and would therefore like to equip myself technically. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about this area at all and therefore it is very difficult to decide what I need and how much money is worth spending.

For me it is already clear that I'm going to buy an iPad, I don't know exactly yet, but probably the Air 2020. I'm the type of learning that needs to be summarized and also like to work with colors and visualizations like mind maps. I find it very practical to work almost paperless, to always have everything compact and to take notes directly in the slides in lectures.

Maybe you can also tell me if and how you work with the iPad during your studies, if you have already had experience with it.

In addition, I probably also need a laptop, I just don't know which one. Many recommend a MacBook to me. It would probably be the MacBook Air 2020 for me. Is this price worth 1200 euro worth it or is it too much and unnecessary? I probably only need it for things like Microsoft Office and simple surfing. And do I have advantages if I get a MacBook, because it is somehow compatible with the iPad, or is it not important and I could work just as well with a laptop from Lenovo (I have heard this brand often), although I do have an iPad?

I find a lot of money for over 1000 euro, especially because I wouldn't be the person who needs to program, cut, edit photos or play complex games

It is generally important to me that everything goes well and for a long time, I have no nerve for any problems because, as I said, I'm not familiar with it. It should be light and thin. 13 inches is the perfect size. And I don't want to have to change it during my studies, maybe 5-6 years. And a long battery life and sufficient storage space is also important to me.

Is that realistic for maybe 600-700 euro (cheaper would of course be better)? I would be very happy about your tips 😊

Honestly, macbooks are the most unnecessary thing you can buy. For the same price, you get much better technology. Furthermore, I don't see any other advantages of the MacOS operating system.

Ma

Yes, the iPad has "better technology".

ma

It reads that you have never worked with a Mac.

Bo

Then please bring arguments why a Macbook is better than any laptop with Windows 10.

li

If you only want to do a little office on the laptop, a very cheap one is enough.

The synchronization is not as perfect as with an Apple-Only system, but the important basic functions are also mastered by a Windows device.

The iPad Air is a good choice, I have it myself.

ma

I already have software with me that costs you just 1000 euro at Win

I'm not being filled with senseless patches --- 1 hole stuffed 10 new ones. Get my Os for free ----- Very long lifespan - you have retrofitted it umpteen times --- The best thing is it is running, and has been in continuous operation for 9 years now. Etc.

Ma

Take a look at the question "What is better to get? (Technology, Apple, MacBook)" and the following answer

Bo

Which software to be precise? In my opinion, Windows has a lot more freeware than Macbook.
You don't get your Os "free", it is only included in the price. You then pay a hefty surcharge in contrast to a PC without an OS.
Windows 10 Pro Keys get for 2 euro on the Internet😂
What are "senseless" patches? That is not an argument.
So there are no new software update bugs in MacOS?
Again a pseudo argument, it does not matter whether Windows runs on it or not, but how the PC or laptop is built.

ma

Bugs are also fixed, but not with a patch but a new version of the program. I used Win for 17 years and then the rubbish went into the bin. Work of 2 weeks in the work… Despite backups on external media --- damage about 6000 euro windoof is so cheap

ta

What price range do you mean by "very cheap"? It is often said that you buy cheap twice "and I'm afraid of that.

li

For your desired 600 euro you get something very good. I would not go under 300-400 euro for new devices, at most used.

ta

Okay thank you

li

You can also wait a bit and buy the devices through your university, there are often good discounts.

ta

Oh thanks for the tip, then I'll have a look 😊

I would recommend the Surface Pro 7. It's not more expensive than a Mac, but a bit more expensive than an iPad. Everything can be done very easily with a Surface, since Windows 10 is preinstalled.

Is this price worth 1200 euro worth it or is it too much and unnecessary?

You don't get Apple because you have to afford it, but because you can afford it.

So the question is: do you want to afford it? If you have the money and the muse, you can of course get it. For both together there's of course enough, so-called convertible notebook, where you have tablet and notebook in one.

I find it very practical to work almost paperless, to always have everything compact and to take notes directly in the slides in lectures.

Many find the thought practical until they do it. There are also people who just learn better when they have the paper in hand.

Would first try out how it is better for you.
