Hello first of all a friend in me still has an old windows xp laptop with pentium 4 and 512 mb rak and this requires windows XP 32 bit and that's why I wanted to download it somewhere as an iso file but the problem is the isos that I have found so far didn't work

Where can I get windows xp for the laptop?

Or would it make more sense to iron linux on it?

If so what linux would run there without problems?

br

Na Linux is 100% the better choice, especially if you are still going online.

Sh

There's no ISO for XP.

Never existed.

ar

Fortunately, Linux is free and usually has the necessary drivers for old notebooks and runs much faster than XP

On the usual dubious sites you will find Windows XP as an ISO, of course functional.

But it makes little sense. XP has not been supported for years. The risk is just too great.

There are various Linux versions for low-performance devices. I recommend testing this and then choosing one. This version can be found via Google under the keyword Linux for underperforming computers.

Of course, or do I just imagine the ISO that is on my PC?

ea

Originally there was really no ISO XP. Everything you find has been reformatted somewhere privately as ISO. XP was installed with the following variants at the time. Via an original CD with autostart, via a start disk in drive a, with an autoexec.bat and one config.sys and a standard driver for the CD drive, where you can navigate to drive D via the DOS window and start with the command setup.

Another variant was to simply place the XP CD on a partition on the hard disk. Partition D and you started from there, again with a start disk the setup and formatted C from there and played XP.

An ISO is just the image of this CD.

Which would you recommend there?

ar

I find Linux Mint pleasant because it is somewhat similar to Microsoft style in its handling. You don't normally need to go to the commando level, which was previously unavoidable and feared. That is why there are many prejudices against Linux. This is also fueled by the Linux community because old hands run around there who prefer to handle commands, which was common and necessary a few years ago.

In Linux with there are different on the download page Cinnamon mate and xfce which one would you take

ar

Since it is very easy to install and the installation is largely fully automatic, I would install both variants. That shouldn't be a problem, since Linux mint occupies approx. 4Gb disk.

I made my installation over a year ago and I don't remember which one. Just started the updates again and again and I'm satisfied, no crashes.

I like mate.
