16:10 and 16: 9 screen?

What happens when I connect a 16: 9 monitor to a 16:10 laptop. Do I then have black bars on one of the two?

If you set your screen to a suitable image resolution, the black bars will likely disappear.

No. The picture is simply adjusted so that you have 16:10 on one and 16: 9 on the other
