I'm currently working in the home office, for this I use a laptop and an external screen connected to the laptop (via VGA on the screen with HDMI adapter to the laptop).
Now and then I have the problem that the laptop screen often goes out and only the external screen is in operation.
I can't just change it back using "Expand screen view", the laptop screen remains black.
That's why I'm currently restarting the laptop every time, which is also cumbersome.
What could be the cause of this problem and how can I prevent it or fix it more quickly?
Press Windows + P there you can set how you want to use your 2 screen. It is probably set so that you only use the 2nd monitor.
If the external laptop screen also remains black, there's most likely a hardware defect. If you get such a test result, you should send the device in for repair. See the Windows desktop on the external monitor, perform a Windows update and renew the graphics card driver.
If there's no technical defect or it is due to the strange adaptation, you could take a look at the energy-saving settings. There you can set when monitors are switched off automatically.
