I recently bought a micro-cassette dictation machine and sometimes added songs by connecting the microphone connection of the dictation machine to the headphone connection of the laptop. It worked perfectly. Then when I wanted to transfer something that I recorded using the same method, only the other way round, to the laptop, it didn't work. How so?
Your dictation machine has an input, no output. So this is a one-way street…
It has a microphone connector and a headphone connector. When I wanted to digitize the recordings, I connected the headphone jack on the dictation machine to the microphone jack on the laptop, but the computer did not recognize it.
Ah, then it could be because your laptop does not recognize the device as a recording device. Does the device appear in the device manager or sound mixer?

Do you have a specific program that you tried?
First I used Audacity, and then I tried it on my cell phone with the preinstalled recording program. Neither worked.
