Linux Pepperwith distribution, set up Wi-Fi?

Got an old laptop with 2GB Ram and Intel Atom processors with a Linux distribution called Peppermint back on the road.

Libre Gimp and everything else as well as the browser run really clean again for the old thing, and when I plug a LAN cable into the netbook, the internet also works. The problem is: I don't have a LAN cable on the way and I was told by the original owner that the device could run Wi-Fi on the Windows XP of that time, so the hardware for the Wi-Fi is available.

My question now is how I can set up the Wi-Fi, tutorials are only aimed at Linux Mint and Lubuntu, but I have Peppermint.

The instructions for Ubuntu / Linux Mint should work just fine under Peppermint.

Have a look at the terminal to see what is being said for

ip address

That should list all network interfaces that are available. Is there something about wlan0 or wlp… To be found?

It is possible that your WLAN card is not supported by Peppermint. You then have different options:

If you can find out the exact name of the WLAN card using the lshw command, you can search further there.
Try another distribution like Linux Mint, openSUSE or Manjaro. If it works, it's probably the old kernel in Peppermint.
A WLAN USB stick could help, but it's really stupid.

If XP was on it: is the laptop very old?

The laptop is very old, around 10-15 years, and that's why Mint no longer works there, so you had to take the slimmest of the slimmest operating systems: Peppermint.

If I enter lshw then there's a product called Network Controller, among other things, the product name is:, BCM4312 802. 11b / g LP - PHY "

I hope that my chip will be supported, because I need this netbook to work on the go and I have put a lot of hours into this thing to get it to work, not even XP ran cleanly on this box

Declared for Linux Mint. But Peppermint is based on Debian, isn't it? Then it should actually be available there - if the base is not too old.

Na

You still need the right firmware for this Broadcom chip.

To do this, you have to install the firmware-b43-installer package.
