How does it work when traveling to Greece (with German numbers) with a mobile phone and a smartphone? Costs extra? Activation? And calls between each other! (we're a the beginning of the trip a little larger group- Zwischenischabsprachen would not be bad.) Same numbers? The smartphone has a German flatrate, the other mobile phone is a prepaid cell phone. Both D1 network.
Of all this roaming stuff I've read something on the edge. But somehow I'm not so clear.
Am there really unconscious. I would be more interested in an answer for idiots!
Our one accommodation has wireless LAN- DA I need no information.
But: our one accommodation has no Wi-Fi. Were there any possibilities for Greece to finish something for a couple of days, or would the smartphone be affordable, at least? Laptop would be better (for any mushroom research mushrooms are my hobby). But uses nothing to bad reception, poor data transmission
What is the network expansion in Greece? Our accommodation would be in a small village. In Germany, I would then expect only a very bad network (or no network). How is that in Greece? (also refers to the previous question)
The tariffs in and from Greece are the same as in Germany, as intra-EU roaming charges have been abolished.
In the EU the tariffs are the same
So: Your phone works in GR just as if it were in D. That means, if you call a fellow traveler with his German cell phone, that's as if you both were in D. Same applies to calls from D. Call someone in GR, you have to select the 0030, because it is as if you were in D. Who wants to reach you in GR with a Greek phone, must select the 0049 and the 0 of your Handynr. Omitting.
The grid expansion in GR is very different, I know only Corfu, because the network is very good everywhere, even in the villages. The cafés usually have Free Wi-Fi and that's fast too.
You could get in GR a prepaid card for Wi-Fi and - if you have a second slot - this only for the local Internet use. I myself always turn off mobile data with me and sit down for the Internet just in a cafe.
But then stay the numbers? Say, if I call someone else from Germany in Greece, then the same applies, as in Germany?

Yes…
Of course you have to choose the right country code, otherwise nothing changes.
Thanks! 1st question is clarified.
So then all Germans would have to choose the country code of Germany to communicate with each other?
I'm not sure, but I think yes. But most numbers are anyway stored with country code in the mobile phone. If you do not change that normally does not make any difference, but in such a case already stops and is not too expensive. Simply enter instead of 0-number + 49-number.
I have ALDI talk, and I pay nothing in Greece. The flatrates are valid in the EU. As for the network, if you have a flatrate, it has good reception…
Thanks a lot, so far the best, most comprehensive answer.
Most questions are herewith clarified!
I do not quite understand your last sentence yet. What do you mean with the 2nd slot? The laptop to be taken is a Mac (ie Apple). What is there then the 2nd slot?
We had once in Germany - ca 4-7 years ago, ever, my time registration memory is getting worse for another laptop extra a stick worried for Internet for the holidays (Germany)
We did not have a smartphone yet. It was a pure disaster! A banal site for the next accommodation invited about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, we were able to send an e-mail relatively quickly and the answer came through. But we really booked, where ever a request was technically possible (but the accommodation again without internet).
The 1. Page of 123- mushrooms (large data volume) but loaded for half an hour, then hung up, so in the end no longer usable. Mushroom research was no longer possible. And we found so many fungi unknown to us.
Apart from our mushrooms, we really only need a very small amount of data on holiday: e-mailcheck, because of our company, if there are any questions, book the next accommodation… Extend your stay or similar. We're always pretty spontaneous.
E-mail is synonymous via smartphone, for the mushrooms would be nice but a laptop.
So. Even if you call your neighbor in the coach… 10 cm while kissing away…
That does not interest your mobile phone at all.
It sends to a radio mast. The back. That costs the roaming fee.
In the EU, the fee was reduced to 29 cents. Earlier loose 1.60 euro the minute.
But googling for exactly. "Mobile phone charges in the EU"
I do not want to tell you anything wrong. In any case, they have become much cheaper. A high on the EU.

Better than I thought:-)
Oh, sorry, the second slot was SIM card for mobile. Germany is notorious for bad and slow connections as far as the internet in rural areas is concerned. Greece is certainly much faster on the way there. Well, there may be remote mountain villages, but I would not be surprised if it all works so much better than in D. Even Albania and Romania, after all you hear, have much faster Wi-Fi than we do here.
No, no, no - you telephone the same way as if you were in Germany. Although your phone uses the Greek network, it behaves exactly like in D. It does not "know" that it is anywhere else.
No, there are no more roaming charges in the EU at all. If you are in D 9 ct. Pay per minute for the phone call to a German mobile phone, then this is the same amount in GR. The phone does not take into account where it is, as long as it is in the EU.
