I just wanted to download Avira because I have a Trojan on my laptop. I was told it was free. Has that changed since then? 🤔
Yes, the free version… But Win10 does not need its own.
Win 10 has its own, you don't need a separate one.
?
Differentiate between free and pay version. If the free version is installed, Avira will of course try to offer you the purchase version. Simply reject it and you can search for and eliminate your virus with the slimmed-down version.
It's best to get Search and Destroy as well…
Do you have W10- the built-in DEFENDER IS ALSO GOOD!
Better stay with the Defender that comes with Windows.
But I can recommend creating a Kaspersky Rescue USB Bootstick. It also gets rid of viruses, worms, Trojans, adware, malware and other pests. Even extremely stubborn ones that can't be removed while Windows is running. And this is how you do it:
Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO: https://support.kaspersky.com/de/viruses/krd2018
Then write the ISO with Rufus https://rufus.ie/ on an empty formatted USB stick.
Simply boot the created stick and follow the instructions of the assistant.
How do you know that you have a trojan on your device? And if that is actually the case, I would not rely on an antivirus program, but instead would reinstall Windows directly depending on the infection.
To answer your question: Avira is free, but there's also a paid version. However, I would never install it personally. Avira wanted to cheer you on https://www.pcspezialist.de/blog/2015/06/17/ask-toolbar-durch-microsoft-gesperrt-toolbar-als-malware-deklariert/ in the past. I don't trust such a manufacturer. On Windows 10, the Defender is completely sufficient and if you use an older operating system, I tend to Avast.
Yes
Yes, it's free. However, fade in tons of advertising that you don't need and disrupt and slow down the system more than anything else.

The home version or which one?
Ever heard of Windows Defender?
You're talking about a firewall, but this was about AV programs.
The Win Defender also looks for viruses, I'm not sure about eliminating them
