Expkit.gen2? Virus?

I got the message from Avira 2 weeks ago when I opened Firefox that there's a virus on my laptop called Expkit.gen2.

This message I got before months always when I opened Firefox after my laptop started up. The difference to now is that at that time this virus was automatically quarantined and only once came the message that this virus was found. Now I get this message every 10-15 seconds when Firefox is open.

I have always deleted this find but it is still displayed. If I make a full scan of the laptop with Avira but no find, no warning, etc., according to this scan, so everything is ok and no virus is found.

Even more strange is that when I'm connected to my hotspot from the phone and Firefox open, there's no message from Avira. As soon as I'm connected to the Wlan at home, the messages come. My sister also uses the Wi-Fi at home but does not have this problem.

I just can't come to that, does anyone of you have any idea what or if I can do something, or why only I get the messages when I'm at home connected to the wireless.

What you could do would be to start the computer with an "antivirus" scan boot CD and then practically "from the outside" to scan the computer.

Kaspersky e.g. Offers something like an ISO file, which you then have to burn to a CD (preferably with a "clean PC"):

This is called "Rescue CD" and is free. https://support.kaspersky.com/de/viruses/krd2018

First of all, I would advise against Avira in general, because they tried at that time to under-cheer the https://www.pcspezialist.de/blog/2015/06/17/ask-toolbar-durch-microsoft-gesperrt-toolbar-als-malware-deklariert/ during the installation. Personally, I would not trust such a manufacturer. Furthermore, in my experience, Avira often comes to false positives. That this is somehow related to your network, I strongly doubt, despite your said phenomenon. I think that something has taken root in your browser.

Try to fix the problem with AdwCleaner.

The program safely removes adware, toolbars, browser hijackers and other unwanted programs from Windows and installed browsers. The program consists of a search mode for analysis and the actual cleanup function.

You can download the program here for free: https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

After downloading the program you can also start directly, an installation is not necessary. Close all open programs beforehand.

You start the search and delete at the end all finds. After that your PC has to be restarted.

After that reset your browser. Enter about: support at the top of the URL bar. Now select the Clean Firefox button on the top right.
