Is DSL 6000 still sufficient?

Our family of five has had a fully-fledged DSL line with telephone and Internet since April 21, 2011. Before that we only had a normal telephone connection. At that time we decided on (A) DSL 6000 (1 & 1). At that time we had only one internet-enabled device: a laptop. We shared the laptop with each other. However, a lot has changed over time.

As of February 4th, 2020:

2x desktop PCs
3x laptops
7x smartphones
4x tablets
3x internet radios
1x SmartTV
3x Chromecast
2x Google Home

Network infrastructure:

2x Fritz boxes
2x repeaters
2x Powerline adapters + 1x adapter that feeds the Internet into the power line.
1x switch

Every corner of our house is provided with Wi-Fi.

Would it be advisable to switch to a faster line with DSL? And if so how fast should it be AT LEAST?

Your question is not so easy to answer because you need more information.

Does anyone play video games?

Do you want to watch films online? (Netflix and co)

Do you watch platforms like YouTube videos?

Does someone occasionally download things like music, video games etc?

DSL 6000 is itself very slow, especially with so many possible users in the house. Otherwise I would recommend a 50,000 DSL line with the little information. (If possible)

Pr

Definitely. A 6000 line is enough for a single HD stream (youtube, netflix, etc.), that's it.

If you have 3 chromecasts etc. There's a good chance that you want to watch more than one thing at a time.

Do you have a 4k tv?

I would advise you to a 50,000 line, so 50mbit / s minimum. This works at least 5 HD streams, or just under 2 4k streams. 100mbit / s or even more would not be inappropriate for 6 people and so much hardware. It doesn't cost much anymore, you get 100mbit / s for 40 euro a month with Telefonflat.

Do you currently have problems with your bandwidth? You should notice that if videos buffer or something like that.

Gr

That depends entirely on your usage behavior, if it was enough for you so far, there's no reason to change, but I would adjust the contract DSL 6000 is no longer available at 1 and 1, so you can switch to 16000.

I would take internet through the cable tv connection. This is one of the cheapest options.

In the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia is Unitymedia, in the other federal states is vodafone Kabel. You can order both without a TV transmitter.

Vodafone cables e.g. Offers a 100 Mbit line for the first 24 months (minimum contract term) for only € 19.99 per month. After that, it costs € 34.99 per month. The price includes the router Vodafone Station with WLAN function.

Our SmartTV is a 4K television. For your 2nd question: Videos at e.g. YouTube does not buffer, however, almost always a maximum resolution of 480p is automatically set. If I set higher resolutions, the video runs for a few seconds and then starts to buffer. In addition, we often have dropouts on internet radios. With desktop PCs connected by a LAN cable, even small files take a long time to download. Couldn't even properly download an antivirus program because the internet was so slow. Likewise the long loading times at Google Pictures.

Cable is unfortunately not yet available in the village. : /

We prefer to keep Vodafone first because an acquaintance (who lives in the same place as we do) who is a DSL customer there often has Internet access.

Le

Hello we mostly watch YouTube videos. Music is also streamed. And then in parallel per family member.

If I read all of your answers like this, then 50,000 is the bare minimum. If you want to watch 4k films then it should be more… 100,000 would be advisable. (Netflix recommends a min. 25,000 line at 4k so that it runs stably)

Ga

I join @ jort93.

In your place, I would also go to VDSL 50,000, you will also notice immediately afterwards that everything will run more smoothly. It will really be a world difference for you.

If 1&1 can't offer you that yet, I will be happy to check when an expansion is planned for you.

Pr

4k is 4 times as many pixels as full hd. Therefore you need 4 times the bandwidth accordingly, so I ask.

I would recommend 100mbit because you are so many with so much equipment. More is of course also possible, but with 100mbit you should get along easily (if you are not watching different 4k streams on 5 TVs at the same time or something).

50mbit is minimum for you in my opinion. Then several people can watch videos comfortably at the same time and you can also stream netflix (or something like that) in 4k on your 4k TV. But multiple 4k streams or so becomes tight.
