USB keyboard on garage tape?

Who knows about Garageband? Can you connect a USB midi keyboard to a laptop and play the piano directly? Can you choose sounds and play them? The focus is not on the recording, but rather an e-piano replacement for someone with space and money problems. The laptop and software are available.

I don't know the software and don't have an Apple PC to test it myself. I used to have a program under Windows that could record and play back with lots of sounds, but strangely enough, simple live games were not possible. Hence my question.

It's almost the normal use case. Whether you record now or not, you always have to hear the sound played.

You're right. I'm not quite sure what the real problem was back then. It doesn't matter, it was a different software.
