How best to upgrade Vodafone Unitymedia in your home?

I signed a Vodafone Unitymedia contract in the second apartment. The first few months I have 1000 Mbits, then ws is downgraded.

The included Vodafone station is not so nice or have my "Alexa echoes" of the connection problems more often. Otherwise, a few laptops, cell phones are also connected to it via WLAN.

First question: The multimedia socket is in the bedroom and the router is there. Can you simply install the multimedia box in another room? Or does it all have to be connected / connected somewhere in the house?

Second question: Does an update of the router (Vodafone station) make sense? E.g. Current Fritz Box? Or what do you take there? Install router after Vodafone station?

Additional information: I would like to have the laptops in the office connected to the network via LAN, unless there's another option which is just as stable. Or it is possible that I simply move the multimedia box. I don't play, so it doesn't have to be that fast.

What can I recommend?

Just yesterday, after 2-3 years, I finally replaced this gruesome Vodafone box with the Fritz box. Surcharge 5 euro per month, but the box is really good for that. So I can recommend, especially when it comes to settings. But I also use it for home gaming and streaming portals.

You can either lay the can or continue to grind / split it. I have one in the living room and one in the bedroom (already from the previous tenant). I recommend to have a professional do it anyway.

In the office you can of course connect the devices via LAN. Here I recommend a docking station if there's one for the laptops. Simply connect the docking station to the LAN and monitor as well, then you can work in the office like a computer.

If the slots on the router are not sufficient, you can put a switch in between. Or if the laptops are close to each other, pack a LAN cable from the router to the laptops and then let the switch distribute everything.

I don't have any training / studies in IT, but in general I do a lot professionally with these things.

Back then, a technician told me that I was only allowed to use one multimedia jack so that the bandwidth was guaranteed.

Well, and after a couple of years of dedicating rooms, I simply removed / turned off the Vodafone modem and connected it in another corner → the same bandwidth! Next test: multimedia socket on the other end of the apartment used → the same bandwidth, no problems!

It follows: Technician lied completely ;-)

I think the new Vodafone stations are really good, they can handle 400 MBit / s easy and there were no problems with these Alexa and Google toys. The Fritzbox offers a bit more functions and comfort, e.g. The use of DECT radio telephones such as Fritzfon C6 or child safety / ticket system, …

Lo

You can connect the router to any coax cable in your house as long as it is connected to the cable network, since the same signal is present everywhere.

FritzBoxes have very practical functions, but if you don't need them, the FritzBox won't be worth it. You don't actually get better Wi-Fi reception.
