Why did Edge just install itself?

My laptop was hanging up. Then I switched it off and let it cool. It took a long time when I started it up again. Then I had Windows Edge without my intervention.

How can that be?

Sn

I'm not sure, but did you have N update?

Pa

Is due to the new update, which has done that on every pc

Vi

Microsoft recently released a new Edge version. Bombarded me with ads right after logging in.

An

Yes, when booting up again, there was always a message that an update was carried out and the laptop then restarted.

An

Thank you very much!

Sn

Then that will probably be the trigger, just delete it.

An

I was suddenly on it too. Deleted quickly.

An

Thanks, I uninstalled it immediately.

Edge comes from Microsoft and is distributed with the Windows updates.

A new edge version ("Canary") is currently in the starting blocks, maybe that's it.

You can ignore it, you can easily change the standard browser.

But you shouldn't remove it, because Edge (hopefully) will eventually take on the technical role of Internet Explorer.
Many programs need an integrated browser and so far IE has provided the functionality for this - so you shouldn't just delete it. However, Microsoft has recently been offering a new alternative based on Edge Canary, so that (hopefully) the IE can eventually become extinct.
