LINUX broken by uninstallations?

Have installed on a weak laptop LINUX. Because everything runs so slowly I have uninstalled some applications in the hope that the system will be relieved. After that, the system did not start anymore, there was an error message, unfortunately not exactly how it was.

Can you fix LINUX again in such a case? And what can't be uninstalled?

Which distribution?

That's not the way to go. You probably do not have a frugal interface installed. Recommended would be Xfce, LXDE or Enlightenment. But again: what does "weak" mean? Which hardware is actually installed?

After that, the system did not start anymore, there was an error message, unfortunately not exactly how it was.

Without the error messages we can only guess. What did you specifically uninstall?

Can you fix LINUX again in such a case?

Of course, but you have to know what you did exactly. However, I advise you to directly install a new system, such as Xubuntu or Lubuntu. Maybe also Puppy or even DSL. You would need to know the hardware to be able to make a recommendation. Why repair a totally new system? This could actually be more complicated and time consuming than reinstalling.

And what can't be uninstalled?

That which is needed. You can't answer that more precisely. You can generally uninstall GUI programs if you do not need them. But you should not fumble around anything non-graphic unless you know it and the effects are known to you. Just uninstall everything that can't go well. On a brand new system you do not need to uninstall anything…

Thanks for the information! This is LINUX Mint. I have the feeling that it runs smoother when I uninstall packages. Be careful now, and always make a system backup.

Nah, that will not work. Try Mint with MATE instead of Cinnamon. It may be that this works well. First and foremost, the surface is the dominant factor, not the installed packages. They hardly matter.

If even MATE does not run well, look at Lubuntu. Or finally Puppy. Live versions are handy for testing. You do not have to install the system right away.

Thanks, I'm going for the next system crash equal to a USB stick with MATE ago.

What a stupid idea if you do not know what is needed for what!

there was an error message, unfortunately no longer knows exactly how it was.

That's really stupid because you now need a glass ball to find the error.

Just reinstall and then come again.

I would not install Linux Mint on weak laptops, but Lubuntu. This is an official Ubuntu-devirat, only with the difference that there the resource-saving LXDE desktop is used. Otherwise, Lubuntu is 100% compatible with Ubuntu. Here is the download of the current stable long-term support version:

32bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...p-i386.iso

64bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...-amd64.iso

This is extremely fast on weak systems.
