Yes, I have to confess since I bought an Ipad about 3 years ago, I never really needed a laptop (my age from 2014-2016 was broken)
does it still make sense to buy a laptop at the moment? Are there any better alternatives? From how many inches do you speak of a laptop, I sometimes still read a notebook at 17 inches?
In terms of price, I would prefer 400-600, just use the PC to surf, watch word and series.
Laptop and notebook mean the same thing
Of course, a laptop makes sense, especially with the current performance, which you can get for very little money

No, laptop and notebook are basically not the same.
Laptop is the generic term.
Notebook, netbook, ultrabook, convertible, … Describes the type of laptop.
It depends on what you want to do with it. Such a tablet has a smaller display, mostly no real keyboard (unless you have something extra for it) and much less computing power.
For students and business, a tablet is simply unusable, for the consumer who is only surfing and looking after his farm on Facebook, a laptop is simply oversized and possibly too bulky.
I have an Art Surface myself. The things are the absolute intermediate thing between the two worlds. A real processor (Intel i5), Windows 10 and handy format (12 "). These are enough for most.
You only really need a real laptop if you want to take it for games and want a reasonably large display.

Well that's different from person to person. A tablet will probably be enough for most people today. As in your case. For times Word, series and so on, tablets are enough. As far as repairs are concerned, the costs are almost the same and the display size of tablets and laptops is no longer different. You just have to buy what you need yourself.

As I wrote in another comment:

All small, portable personal computers are laptops.
You have to think about it yourself. In your eyes, is it worth buying a laptop for your work etc? I have an Ipad Pro and the keyboard, I can really recommend it.
You should buy a laptop if you
Don't want to be dependent on Android or iOS
You need a real hard drive
You need a little more computing power
If your programs are not supported for ARM processors.
You need the interfaces of the laptop (several USB ports, CD drive)
Pc only for surfing, watching word and series
Basically, this is all possible on a tablet. If the somewhat limited version of Word on the tablet is enough for you, you can also stay with the tablet. Keyboards and mice are also available for tablets.
You gain mobility with the tablet. The thing is smaller and usually lighter. Without a keyboard, surfing is definitely better. A laptop is usually bigger. Just 17 "does not fit in every backpack, so you will often find 15".
The tablets, programs, interfaces and computing power are simply missing for productive work. The processor design is completely different. You in turn do not need these points. A tablet really makes sense for you.
