I want to download a big game and let my laptop run overnight. Can this be harmful because the screen has to stay on or the download will abort?
I chose brightness at the bottom and also the strongest energy saving option so that the processor and so it runs even less well.

You can't do more than turn everything down. You could unplug the monitor on a PC, but you can't on a laptop.
I don't know why but the screen has to stay on because Steam won't download anymore
If you use Windows 10, right-click on an empty spot on your desktop. Then go to Customize> Lock screen> Screen saver settings
Then set the screen saver to "Empty" and confirm with "OK". Then after a minute of waiting, the screen goes black and only the backlight stays on. The display itself no longer shows anything. Then you don't have to worry about something burning in on you. While it is widely believed that nothing can burn on LCD screens, it is wrong. Something can burn onto EVERY screen, which is why the use of a screen saver is still recommended today.
Also make sure that you have set the laptop not to go into sleep mode after a period of inactivity (i.e. When you are not using it). Then the download will also pause.
