External hard drive win10 not readable?

When I connect my external hard drive it is displayed in Explorer with the drive letter, but when I click on it, the forever wheel appears. The LED on the hard disk then flashes. I've already read and tried everything about it on the Internet. Unsuccessful. From the noises it sounds normal. This is also the case on another laptop. Does somebody has any idea? Otherwise 1TB photos would be gone. Thank-you

Which hard drive model is it? Maybe a WD MyPassport or Elements?

Have there been any problems recently (e.g. Slower access) and has something happened at some point (e.g. Fall)?

It sounds as if the heads are unstable and can no longer read the data correctly. I'm afraid you won't get around without processing in the clean room laboratory.
