Hi
I should have a question about setting up my new laptop.
How should / should I do it? (I don't mean how to set up a laptop, but from the accounts)
Should I do one for "business stuff" and a private one with games and stuff like that?
(then 3 accounts, business, private and admin)
Or what do you think? 😅
(yep it's late.)
Hi
It depends on what else you use the laptop for. Is there something sensitive on it, extra private account.
Conversely, business data is confidential, then encrypted on an extra account.
Usually, an account is sufficient, provided you have an organized folder structure (i.e. Not everything on the desktop somehow)
Onenote in the old (desktop) version is also recommended. There you can separate your notes / documents well without an extra account.
Set up a user account
Install your programs and what else you need
Then create a full backup, e.g. Free with https://www.ubackup.com/de/free-backup-software.html
If you are the only one using the notebook, a user account is sufficient. Whether you create a local account or a Microsoft account is entirely up to you. Get an external hard drive when the opportunity arises and regularly back up everything that is important to you in terms of data. In the event of an emergency, this saves a lot of nerves.
Okey, thank you for the answer.
I had always structured folders very well, but I just thought that I would have a cleaner desktop… Let's see what my employer then says, at the end it says reset and the company sets it up differently
So I would just make an admin (which I will never use anyway) and my account.
An administrator account is automatically available. You then simply create your own account and use it for private and school purposes. Alternatively, create a local account and a Microsoft account. You then give the Microsoft account limited rights and the local account you give full rights.
What do you mean with Microsoft accounts? So that you create a new user in Windows, once Microsoft, once Local, and once Admin (which is already there)?
Or am I on the line right now?
Or am I on the line right now?
Yes a little bit. 😉 But not so wild, I will explain to you. The administrator account always exists and is not created separately. The only thing you do is create an account that has the same rights.
If you create a user account with an email address, then it is a Microsoft account. You can then access additional features and functions. A local account is not linked to Microsoft. As a result, some Microsoft services can't be used at all or only to a limited extent.
When you set up Windows on your notebook, you have the choice whether you want to create a local or a Microsoft account. Both automatically have administrative rights. You can also set up a Microsoft account first and then create another user account with limited rights in the user account control.
If you use your notebook alone, an account is actually sufficient. You just have to decide whether you want to use all the services or prefer to set up a local account "without" a link to Microsoft. I myself now use a local and have turned off some features. But as I said, it is entirely up to you.
Okey thanks! Thank you for the fact that there are such people here on good question…
That means if we use Office 365 from school it makes sense to create a Microsoft account or? 😅

If you have access to Office 365 from school, you can also use the Office programs with a local account. You then simply register directly in Office 365 with the access data you received from your school.
Hm, sry, then I do not understand the difference😬, what are the advantages with a Microsoft account and what are the advantages with a local one? 😅
(you definitely get the star… Just for your trouble)

With a Microsoft account e.g. Settings saved in the cloud, you can use features like "People" and contacts are available on all your devices. Above all, more data is sent to Microsoft. If you don't want that, you should use a local account.
If you buy the notebook and just use it like this, you will find some apps either way that you probably won't use. Including ad-financed applications like CandyCrush. But you can uninstall everything and you use a clean Windows image and reinstall Windows first.
If you still have questions later or if something is unclear, simply ask again. If I can help, I'm happy to help.
Wow okey, thank you. There should be an extra award.
I planned to reinstall Windows, but my father said I should leave it😤 I think you should reinstall every laptop once, precisely because of unnecessary software etc.
What do you think? 😅 With a new set-up, data from the laptop itself (any battery configs from (in my case Lenovo) etc) will be lost, or not?

Thank you for the flowers. ☺

It kind of reminds me of my youth. Back then my father didn't want me to take care of his technique. Now it is exactly the opposite and there's always a call "Can you just set this up for me or that" 😅
I basically reinstall Windows and use my own images in which ad-financed apps are removed and if update stacks have been integrated. This saves time and nerves and nothing has to be uninstalled. I wanted to upload a video to YouTube anyway, maybe I will come later. Then I give you the link or you add me as a contact.

For a moment, of course, everything is gone. When the installation of Windows is complete, Windows 10 will download all the necessary drivers. Even if not, Lenovo, HP and Co. All provide a tool with which you can quickly reload something. I have several ThinkPads and an HP myself. The reinstallation is done relatively quickly. Therefore absolutely nothing speaks against it.
😅, yes, that's coming too slowly… He is a computer scientist, but in the direction of business😅
Now I still have a question: what do you mean by "own images"?
(So what an image is and how to set up Windows with it is clear to me, but why own? Do you edit it? 😅)

My father is "interested" in technology, but everything has to work immediately. Unpack, plug in and you're done. As soon as it comes to drivers or the like, he claps both hands over his head.

You guessed it right. There are various tools (programs) with which you can adjust the image of Windows. Among other things, settings and features can be defined / activated in advance, or unwanted content such as advertising-financed apps can be removed.
I myself also remove all unnecessary fonts, sample files or language packs etc. That are not required and, above all, are not system-relevant. Above all, this saves storage space and no advertising apps are pushed under me. So my Windows is not clogged.
Hm, my father shouldn't like that, he just lives according to the moto, but why change? 😅
But thanks Trzdm
If your father knew the differences and knew how it would affect you in the longer term, you might be able to change his mind. As a metaphor: only important mail in the mailbox and every day crammed with advertising brochures. 😅
My pleasure!
Let's see, first of all the mail has to go forward😂
